The W.S. Badcock Furniture Corporation, a fixture in the southeastern United States, embarked on its retail journey in 1904. From these humble beginnings, the company charted a course of rapid expansion, leveraging a distinctive dealer store model that proved highly effective in reaching communities across the region.
In November 1951, a new chapter began for Badcock in South Florida. James C. Baber, Jr. seized an opportunity and purchased the Badcock dealer-operated store in West Palm Beach. What made this unique was the agreement that allowed Baber to operate under his own corporate name, 'Badcock Economy Furniture Store, Inc.'
With this, the Badcock South Florida branch was born! Despite operating independently with distinct corporate structures, both entities chose to maintain brand consistency by utilizing the trade name 'Badcock Home Furniture & More,' creating a unified customer experience across different operational branches.
Badcock Furniture of South Florida remained steady in offering their own unique easy in-house financing and stand by the phrase “No Credit Refused” to this day.
The 2004 hurricanes devastated the original South Florida corporate headquarters, located on Clematis Street in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. The back-to-back storms proved too much for the building, ultimately destroying it. In the aftermath, the decision was made to relocate the corporate office and find a new home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Despite the change of location and the challenges faced, the company has persevered, remaining a family-owned and operated business committed to its values and future growth.
Sadly, The WS corporation closed its retail operations in October of 2024 after 120 years in business due to financial difficulties after being bought out and merging with Conns Furniture, leaving only the South Florida Branch with the family name and legacy to carry on.
Rooted in a commitment to community engagement, Badcock Furniture of South Florida remains dedicated to providing quality furnishings and exceptional service not only to its immediate neighbors but also to the surrounding communities, fostering lasting relationships and contributing to the region's economic vitality. Their continued presence shows a dedication to growth and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of South Florida residents.
